Questions, gently answered

A few things people often wonder before booking an assessment.

How long is the assessment, and what happens?

The assessment appointment is 90 minutes long, held online over secure video. Your psychologist will ask about your personal history, current circumstances and hopes for the future, gently identifying any patterns or cycles and highlighting target areas where therapeutic support could help.

Will I receive a diagnosis?

No — our assessments don’t provide a diagnosis. Instead, your psychologist offers a preliminary formulation and therapy recommendations for your information, to help you decide what feels right for you.

Do I have to continue therapy with Abode afterwards?

Not at all. Assessments are standalone and no-strings — your psychologist may make helpful recommendations, but there’s no obligation to continue with us. If you’d like, we can keep your assessment on file so you can move straight into individual sessions or a therapy collection later.

Can the report be used for legal or medical purposes?

No. The report is written for your own information and reflection. It cannot be used as legal or medical evidence, does not count as medical advice, and shouldn’t be used in place of medical advice.

Can I speak to someone before I book?

Of course. A complimentary 15-minute consultation is a no-pressure way to ask questions and decide whether an assessment is the right starting point. Our complimentary matching service can also offer tailored guidance.

What do I need for an online assessment?

Sessions take place over Zoom. We’ll send a secure meeting link ahead of your appointment — if you don’t already have Zoom, you can download the free app in a couple of minutes, or join straight from your web browser. Beyond that, just a quiet, private space and a device with a camera and an internet connection.
