Dr Lizzie Woodward is a registered Senior Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in NHS mental health services and is a co-founder of ABODE Therapy. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at University College London. She has experience in working with people across the lifespan struggling with a range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Lizzie is particularly experienced in working with people struggling with the effects of trauma from childhood or adulthood, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and other difficulties that can arise after traumatic experiences including shame, dissociation and difficulties managing emotions.

“I believe in thinking about what happened to you, rather than what is wrong with you.”

Lizzie’s therapeutic work is informed by the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion focused therapy (CFT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and schema therapy. Lizzie is an accredited CBT therapist with the BABCP, and is also trained in a range of therapies developed to support people after trauma, including eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), trauma-focused cognitive therapy (TF-CT) and narrative exposure therapy (NET). Lizzie is a warm and compassionate therapist who works in a flexible and cooperative manner.

Prior to clinical training, Lizzie completed her PhD in Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. Her research focused on PTSD and has been published in journals such as Behaviour Research and Therapy and the European Journal of Psychotraumatology. Lizzie is also a research tutor at King’s College London and has an honorary post at the University of Oxford.
